MEGAN THORNE: ROCKING ONE-OF-A-KIND BRIDAL

As a one-time lingerie designer, Megan Thorne has become the go-to jeweler for intricate bridal rings and knows how to spin gold and platinum into details that evoke lace, crochet and pettipoint into settings that surround old rose and exclusive cuts and shapes for center stones. Her engagement rings have been top sellers at stores like Ylang 23 and Greenwich St. Jewelers and her engagement and bridal bands have graced the pages of almost every wedding magazine since she launched her collection in 2009.

“Although my rings are decidedly feminine, they are never frilly, fussy or overly designed,” says Thorne, who also has an affinity for the juxtaposition of fluid and geometric forms. Megan recently debuted a group of one-of-a-kind Ribbon Frame rings, which balance the charm of her ultra delicate floral lacework with unexpected double stones of varying gem cuts and colors. “My inspiration behind these designs was to give equal interest to the ‘Halo’ and the center stones. I also chose to create silhouettes that are pretty, eye-catching and offer a bolder look than the rings I have designed in the past.” Megan explains.

There is also a nod the elements of antique and Art Deco designs. “We have crafted them in two-tone metal (18K white centers with either a yellow or rose gold band) so that the collection can be worn with a lot of eclectic stacking rings.”

Perhaps the newest element for Megan is experimenting with two stones in one ring. “I love the elongated shape created by stacking the round and pear rose cut diamonds. The unusual outline of the rose cuts offers great little nooks and crannies to fill with diamond ribbons and pops of cherry red rubies or deep blue sapphires.”

Within this one-of-a-kind selection, Megan also offers sapphire trillion center stones and can customize cuts, shapes and accent stone colors.

“I will always love my classic collection,” says Megan, “but I noticed that women customize size and colors of center or side stones and that part really excites me—to rework a ring and completely personalize it. This concept has taken my affinity for custom work one step further in that all of the rings in this grouping are bespoke. It’s an exhilarating new direction for me and I’m hoping my customers will feel the same.”
