Prabal Gurung x Tasaki- Turning Classics of Fine Jewelry Into Current Designs

VIEW SLIDESHOW ABOVE

It was apparent that the swirling curves of the earrings and chokers at the Prabal Gurung’s spring 2018 Show were fine jewelry, set with lustrous pearls and diamonds. On trend with the movement towards pearls as modern statements of style, the capsule group is the result of Gurung’s collaboration with Japanese jewelers Tasaki, (Prabal Gurung x Tasaki).

Recognized as the only Japanese jewelry house with its own pearl farm and its advancements in diamond polishing techniques, Tasaki also produces every aspect of the designs in-house and concentrates on the aesthetic beauty as well as ethical practices and processes of the pieces created for its own line and collaborations. It seems a perfect partnership with Gurung, who prides himself on his social consciousness and sustainability in his fashion collections.

The designs are a mix of fluid yet linear earrings with pearls that swirl around the ear and elongated sculptural diamond looks, punctuated by pearls that taper gracefully into diamonds as the dip from the lobe to the nap of the neck.

The choker is entwined with graphic lines and the loops for a feeling of movement in diamonds with one single pearl.

The entire collection flows together to create an ode to the classic or glamorous history of pearls, translating them into what’s current and contemporary today.
